About Becky
Becky Sernett has lived in central New York for most of her life, with a decade spent in the Washington, D.C., area as a magazine journalist. She has a Masters of Fine Arts degree in creative writing and has spent many years leading workshops at the Downtown Writers Center in Syracuse, New York, enjoying its community and inspiration. At some point in her journey, Becky discovered she didn’t care as much about the written word as she did in helping others find and express their voices, and so this led her to earn a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She began her therapist journey assisting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and specializing in trauma work.
As a New York licensed mental health counselor, Becky has been in private practice for nearly 10 years. She feels most free and playful outdoors, with the trees and more-than-human world. In 2025, she completed her training to be a certified guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.
All this has led Becky to create Rooted Tending—a homebase of sorts, for herself and for her engagement with others. Rooted Tending invites you into experiences that contain the potential to discover new ways of being, with yourself and with the world. All this is done one moment at a time.
Becky would like to acknowledge that the Central New York region is part of the unceded indigenous lands of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, whose constitution very well might have been the model for the U.S. Constitution.
There is ancient wisdom at play in these lands, and she is grateful for the honor to invite others to experience a greater connection with nature where such innate intelligence is at play.

As the journey unfolds, the line between self and nature begins to blur, and you emerge feeling whole, part of something greater, at a peaceful One with all.” –Ryan
